Warriors beat Western Province by four wickets despite Whitehead's five-for
Warriors won by 4 wickets (with 21 balls remaining) against Western Province in the CSA T20 Challenge at Al Amarat. JP King made 32 not out from 25 balls, guiding the chase to 133/6 after Oliver Whitehead's five-wicket haul had kept Western Province in contention.
Warriors' decision to bowl brought early rewards. Beuran Hendricks took 2/16 from four overs, dismissing Joshua van Heerden and Jiveshan Pillay as Western Province slipped to 16/3. Daniel Smith rebuilt with 67 from 49 balls, including eight fours and a six, sharing a 60-run fifth-wicket partnership with Whitehead. Wesley Bedja returned 2/19, including Smith's wicket, to help restrict the innings to 130/8.
Jordan Hermann's 25 and Matthew De Villiers' 28 gave Warriors useful impetus, but Oliver Whitehead took 5/26 to prevent a straightforward chase. He removed Patrick Kruger and Andile Mokgakane with consecutive deliveries at 12.3 and 12.4, leaving Warriors 103/6.
King and Thomas Kaber then added an unbroken 30, with Kaber finishing on 14. Their stand ensured Whitehead's intervention did not overturn the advantage Warriors had established with the ball.
