Oman struggled against Zimbabwe’s pace attack and were bowled out for just 103 runs. This is the lowest total scored against Zimbabwe in a T20 World Cup match.
The innings began slowly for Oman. Jatinder Singh opened but fell early, scoring only 5 runs off 5 balls. Soon after, Aamir Kaleem and Hammad Mirza were dismissed cheaply, leaving Oman under pressure.
Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava was impressive. He removed Hammad Mirza, Vinayak Shukla, and Jiten Ramanandi, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs.
Blessing Muzarabani was the standout bowler. He took 3 crucial wickets including Jatinder Singh, Aamir Kaleem, and Karan Sonavale. His pace and bounce troubled Oman throughout the innings.
Oman’s middle order tried to stabilize the innings. Sufyan Mehmood top-scored with 25 runs off 39 balls. Vinayak Shukla scored 28 off 20 balls, hitting a few boundaries. However, their efforts came too late to make a difference.
Brad Evans also contributed with the ball. He took 1 wicket and forced a spectacular running catch from Brian Bennett to dismiss Nadeem Khan. Zimbabwe’s pace attack dominated, taking 9 out of 10 wickets.
Oman’s collapse was mostly due to the short-pitched deliveries and consistent pace from Zimbabwe’s seamers. They were unable to build partnerships and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
The key dismissals:
- Jatinder Singh b Muzarabani 5(5)
- Hammad Mirza c Taylor b Ngarava 0(5)
- Aamir Kaleem c Myers b Muzarabani 5(7)
- Karan Sonavale c Taylor b Muzarabani 0(6)
- Wasim Ali b Raza 3(8)
- Sufyan Mehmood c Musekiwa b Evans 25(39)
- Shakeel Ahmed b Evans 4(5)
- Nadeem Khan c Bennett b Evans 20(18)
- Other batsmen made small contributions, but Oman could not cross 103.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers showed skill and aggression. Raza, Ngarava, Muzarabani, Evans, and others applied pressure from the first over. Oman’s batsmen were rushed and struggled with the bounce.
Zimbabwe are now in a strong position and expected to chase the target easily. Oman’s innings highlighted the effectiveness of short-pitched bowling and the challenge of facing quality pacers on a bouncy pitch.
