Eastern Strom won by eight runs under the D/L method at Willowmoore Park, making 162/2 before Dolphins finished on 118/5 after 16.1 overs. Ronan Hermann provided the batting foundation, while early wickets gave Eastern Strom a decisive advantage in this CSA T20 Challenge 2026 match. The full scorecard details both innings.
Hermann gives Eastern Strom a lasting foundation
Asked to bat, Eastern Strom built their innings around Hermann's unbeaten 87 from 61 balls, an effort containing nine fours and two sixes. His presence throughout allowed them to carry a productive opening into the middle overs without suffering a cluster of wickets.
Kabelo Sekhukhune supplied 33 from 30 balls in an opening partnership of 82. That stand ended at 9.4 overs when Hanu Viljoen stumped him off Bryce Parsons, but it had already established a platform with more than half the innings remaining.
Jurie Snyman then contributed 16 from 17 deliveries in a second-wicket partnership of 53. Eastern Strom reached 135/2 when he was caught by Tristan Luus off Jason Smith at 16.4 overs. The two substantial stands meant Dolphins could not expose the lower order, despite using six bowlers.
Hermann and Dewan Marais added an unbroken 27 for the third wicket, with Marais finishing on 9 from 12 balls. Extras contributed 17, including 11 wides, adding useful runs alongside the work of the top order.
Ottneil Baartman offered Dolphins their strongest control, conceding 23 from four overs without taking a wicket. Parsons returned 1/13 from two overs, but neither his breakthrough nor Smith's could dislodge the batter holding the innings together.
Kuhn's early strikes leave Dolphins rebuilding
Dolphins lost three wickets before the end of the sixth over. Tiaan Kuhn took 2/12 from two overs, first having Parsons caught by Hermann for 15 at 25/1, then bowling Sean Gilson for a three-ball duck at 33/3.
Between those dismissals, Amaan Khan removed Smith for 3, caught by Christopher Britz at 32/2. The sequence left Ntando Zuma and Viljoen needing to rebuild rather than extend the opening start.
They added 41 for the fourth wicket before Zuma, who made 28 from 27 balls, was caught by Marais off Thabiso Lekhoana at 74/4 in the 11th over. Hanu Viljoen made 46 from 32 balls, striking two fours and three sixes to give the reply its principal impetus.
Another 41-run stand, this time with Gomolemo Phiri, kept Dolphins moving. Viljoen's dismissal at 115/5 after 15.4 overs, caught by Khan off Tumelo Simelane, removed their leading scorer. Phiri remained unbeaten on 14, with Andile Simelane on 2 when the innings ended.
Alongside Kuhn's breakthroughs, Aryan Gopalan's four wicketless overs cost only 17, while Khan returned 1/11 from 2.1 overs. Those restrictive contributions mattered: against the supplied revised target of 127 in 16.1 overs, Dolphins finished short.
