Lions beat Titans by 15 runs at Karwan Cricket Ground, defending 206/3 as their opponents finished on 191/7. A commanding fourth-wicket partnership gave Lions the advantage in this CSA T20 Challenge 2026 fixture, while wickets through the middle of the chase proved enough to withstand a late counterattack. The full scorecard details the result.
An unbroken stand transforms Lions' innings
Lions chose to bat but lost Zubayr Hamza for 6, caught off Eathan Bosch with the score at 8/1. Neil Timmers and Rassie van der Dussen added 36 before Junior Dala removed Timmers for 14, leaving the innings at 44/2 in the seventh over.
Van der Dussen supplied the early acceleration, hitting four sixes in his 37 from 23 balls. He added 31 with Connor Esterhuizen before Dala trapped him lbw at 75/3 after 10.2 overs. Titans had removed three of the top four, but that was their final breakthrough.
Esterhuizen and Mitchell Van Buuren then put on an unbroken 131 for the fourth wicket, turning a restrained start into a substantial total. Esterhuizen finished with 98 not out from 49 balls, striking eight fours and six sixes. Van Buuren provided powerful support with an unbeaten 39 from 22 deliveries, including four sixes, as neither batter allowed Titans another opening.
The bowling figures reflected contrasting contributions. Dala took 2/37, while Beyers Swanepoel conceded only 19 from his four overs and Tabraiz Shamsi returned 0/20 from three. Dayyaan Galiem, however, went wicketless for 66 from four overs, leaving Titans unable to contain the innings despite those tighter spells.
Two wickets in two balls halt Titans
Titans began with a 65-run opening stand between Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Rivaldo Moonsamy. Pretorius hit five fours in his 29 from 19 balls before Siya Plaatjie had him caught by Codi Yusuf at 5.5 overs. Plaatjie also removed Dewald Brevis for 4, eventually finishing with 2/34.
Moonsamy kept the chase moving, sharing 38 with Galiem before Bjorn Fortuin dismissed the latter for 16 at 113/3. Donovan Ferreira then fell to Yusuf for 9, and Titans' pursuit faltered decisively soon afterwards.
Nqabayomzi Peter removed Moonsamy, caught by van der Dussen, with the first ball of the 16th over, ending an innings of 61 from 41 balls containing six fours and three sixes. Peter trapped Swanepoel lbw next ball to leave Titans 131/6. His 2/48 was expensive, but those consecutive wickets removed the established batter and his replacement without a run being added.
Bosch kept Titans in contention with three sixes in 25 from nine balls, sharing 33 with Lethabo Phahlamohlaka before being run out at 164/7. Phahlamohlaka finished unbeaten on 25 from 19 deliveries, and Dala made 9 not out from three in their unbroken 27-run stand. That late resistance narrowed the margin but could not overturn Lions' advantage.
