South Western Districts beat Eastern Strom by six wickets at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn, reaching 149/4 in 19 overs after restricting their opponents to 144/7. Janneman Malan supplied the foundation of the chase after a disciplined bowling performance in the CSA T20 Challenge 2026. See the full scorecard.
Sadler's late wickets contain Eastern Strom
Eastern Strom chose to bat and began with a 36-run opening partnership between Kabelo Sekhukhune and Ronan Hermann. Neither opener converted that start: Regan Rhode bowled Hermann for 9 at the start of the seventh over, before Andile Phehlukwayo bowled Sekhukhune for 25 from 26 balls, leaving the innings at 48/2.
Brayden Hicks and Christopher Britz rebuilt through a third-wicket stand of 33. Hicks made 21 from 19 balls before Zack Momberg bowled him, while Britz provided some boundary impetus with two sixes in his 24 from 19 deliveries.
Britz and Jurie Snyman added another 29, but Eastern Strom continued to lose established batters before they could make a larger contribution. Bennie Hansen stumped Britz off Rhode at 110/4 in the 17th over. Rhode finished with 2/27 from four overs, complementing Phehlukwayo's return of 1/13 from three.
Dewan Marais offered late acceleration, hitting two fours and a six in 18 from 9 balls. But Leo Sadler, with 3/16 from four overs, prevented that burst from becoming a sustained finish. He removed Snyman for 22 and bowled Aryan Gopalan in the same over, with both wickets falling at 130, then had Marais caught by Yaseen Vallie near the end of the innings. Eastern Strom had several useful contributions, but no batter passed Sekhukhune's score.
Malan builds the chase, Alder finishes it
Malan's 75 from 57 balls gave South Western Districts the substantial individual innings their opponents had lacked. His ten fours helped an opening partnership of 88 with Vallie carry the chase into the 13th over without a wicket falling.
Vallie made 26 from 34 balls before Hermann caught him off Tiaan Kuhn. Modise Maloka then contributed 18 from 17 in a second-wicket stand of 34, keeping Malan company as South Western Districts moved towards their target.
Aryan Gopalan interrupted that progress. He had Maloka caught by Chad Classen at 122/2, then dismissed Phehlukwayo, stumped by Hermann, later in the same over. When Tumelo Simelane caught Malan off Gopalan at 131/4 in the 19th, Eastern Strom had removed the chase's mainstay. Gopalan finished with 3/37.
There was little time for that opening to develop. Liam Alder struck 18 not out from four balls, including a four and two sixes, to end the contest alongside Sadler. His brief intervention ensured the late wickets did not carry the chase into the final over.
