West Indies Squad for T20 World Cup 2026

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, January 26, 2026 Cricket West Indies has announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 6 to March 9. The selection reflects a clear focus on players suited to subcontinental conditions.

Shai Hope will lead the West Indies at the global event. The 32-year-old returns to captain the side after missing the recent T20I series against Afghanistan. Selectors have placed their trust in Hope’s calm leadership and growing experience in the format.

Head coach Darren Sammy said the squad was chosen after careful planning. He noted that conditions in India and Sri Lanka require players who can adapt quickly, stay composed under pressure, and perform consistently across all phases of the game.

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie returns following a development spell in South Africa. Johnson Charles has been picked as the backup wicketkeeper, with his powerplay batting offering cover at the top. Quentin Sampson strengthens the middle order after strong performances in CPL 2025.

Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph remains part of the squad under a controlled return-to-play programme. He continues to work with the medical team and is being monitored ahead of the tournament.

The squad includes several all-round options in Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase, and Matthew Forde. Power hitters Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sherfane Rutherford add depth and finishing strength.

West Indies are currently in South Africa for a three-match T20I series from January 27 to 31, which will serve as final preparation before the World Cup.

Drawn in Group C, West Indies will face England, Scotland, Nepal, and Italy. Their opening match is scheduled against Scotland on February 7 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

West Indies Squad:
Shai Hope (captain), Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd.
