Hong Kong qualified for its first men's global tournament at the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, and marked the occasion by beating the hosts. Bangladesh, a Full Member playing at home, were restricted and then beaten by two wickets in Chattogram — comfortably the biggest result in Hong Kong's history.

Hong Kong qualified again for the 2016 T20 World Cup, and has appeared at four Asia Cups, where it has faced India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Its cricket draws on both a long-established expatriate club scene and a growing local playing base.

Hong Kong's most distinctive contribution to cricket is the Hong Kong Sixes, launched in 1992 — a six-a-side tournament played over five-over innings at Kowloon Cricket Club. For years it attracted international stars in an end-of-season carnival format, and it remains one of the sport's most recognisable short-form events.
